The Ministry of Natural Resources would like to remind the public that they may accidentally cause a threat to the health of Ontario's forests by moving firewood from their home to their favourite hunting area, campsite or cottage. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) strictly controls the movement of firewood from pest-regulated areas of Canada. In addition, firewood from anywhere in the United States is not permitted entry into Canada without a permit from the CFIA. Firewood may contain insect and plant diseases that could easily spread to other forest locations if you move firewood from your home to your campsite.

Forest Health Alert - Asian Long Horned Beetle"Robin's Adventures In Camping Equipent"

The Asian long-horned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis) is a forest pest native to several Asian countries that attacks and kills a wide range of hardwood trees, including maple. Also known as the starry sky beetle, this destructive wood boring insect was found in an industrial park bordering Toronto and the City of Vaughan in 2003. It is a serious threat to the forests of Ontario.

The beetle is no stranger to North America . It was first found in New York in 1996, in Chicago in 1998, and in New Jersey in 2002 and again in 2004. A native of China, it was likely introduced into North America by way of wooden pallets, crates, or packaging materials used in shipping. Millions of dollars has been spent to eradicate the insect. Though these programs have been successful to date, any new sightings require immediate action.

Camping without the campground "Robin's Adventures In Camping Equipment"

You crave solitude.

Not loneliness, mind you - your friend is over there on the next rock, taking in the sunset, listening to the wind. You have come here to see this light, and the stars that will follow. You cannot imagine spending the night in a crowded campground. You crave the open space, quiet nights, and morning walks to nowhere.

You can find the perfect place to camp just by driving around. For some people, this is what camping is all about: finding the best place, your private slice of heaven.

Alexander City Outlook - alexcityoutlook.com- Choosing the right RV "Robin's Advenures In Camping Equipment"

By Ben Norman

The last time I went camping, we spent the night in a tent.

The weather was perfect, no threat of rain and the temperature was around 70 degrees during daytime and near 60 degrees at night.

We had perfect weather on this trip, but things don't always work out this way.

I can remember several nights spent in a tent when there seemed to be about as much water falling on the inside as the outside.

RV camper's activities may be hampered by rain or cold, but they make out a lot better than tent campers when things turn nasty.

Hot weather is a lot easier to deal with when RV camping also.

That air conditioner is worth its' weight in gold when the mercury approaches the 100 degree mark and shade is scarce.

Yakima Herald-Republic Local News, Sports - Safe kids -- Keep kids safe while camping

So you're gonna go camping! Good for you! Every summer, wonderful childhood memories are made, sitting around campfires, roasting marshmallows to perfection and singing silly songs. No wonder so many families pack up the tent and head off to "rough it" in the wilderness.

I have friends that warn against it. "There are no "real" toilets!" they exclaim. "And the bugs! Ugh! And doesn't the water have that "Geraldo" virus in it?!"

"It's giardia," I explain. "You bring your own water from home. Camping is great!" I insist. I can't help but roll my eyes at all the fun they'll be missing by staying home.

Unfortunately, every year a few childhood tragedies do occur up in the hills and mountains. Even if the intent of a family camping trip is for Mom and Dad to relax, catch a few fish and let the kids have some outdoor fun, it's still our job to pay close attention to our children's safety and whereabouts. Hazards are out there, but taking simple safety precautions can help ensure a safe and memorable trip.

The County Journal - Washburn, Wisconsin -Camping isn't what it used to be

Growing up, my parents insisted that our family be tent campers when venturing into the out-of-doors, forcing me into a childhood of summer weekends spent trying to sleep on pointed sharp rocks and prickly pine cones, while our neighbors and friends snored contently in nearby campers and motor-homes.
Dad always called those people pansies, insisted we were better off for roughing it, and said in reality those ‘friends’ wished they were us. And Mom and I bought into it.
